What is a Blog Reader?
RSS - Rich Site Summary or Real Simple Syndication. An RSS “feed” is a way for you to subscribe to an internal site. News, blogs, audio, and video sites use RSS feeds to alert readers (or listeners) that there is new content on their site.

I chose to use Feedly as my RSS site to fully keep updated for different blogs to watch for. I chose this particular site because I felt it was the most user friendly when working through the site. The site is very clean cut and simplistic in the aesthetic and not covered with a bunch of activity.
Blogs to follow:
- Mrs. ReaderPants - I love this blog with the many ideas she gives with incorporating different book titles and reviews. She gives you ideas of how to update your library. She gives many different lessons for throughout the year to work with in different ages. It is a very eclectic vibe with many different things that I think would be helpful to learn.
- The Book Wrangler - The Book Wrangler has the best recommendations out there. I love his “if you like this read this” recommendations. He also has books for different days in the month to celebrate. A lot of his things are free to download and use in your future classroom.
- Read Aloud Librarian - This particular site has so many different types of lessons to use with read alouds throughout the school year. She has many different curriculum lessons available with AASL standards to match. The lessons go for PK-5.
- Watch. Connect. Read - This blog provides a wide array of different book reviews and recommendations to picture books as well as chapter books.
- BOOK RIOT - I love this website. It has sooooo many things available to look at. Many different types of recommendations for different things; example: genres. They provide reviews to different books that are out for people to read. They have quizzes to different books. They also have a podcast for you to listen to.
Tumblr - Explore trending topics on Tumblr. See all of the GIFs, fan art, and general conversations about the internet’s favorite things.
I’m still getting used to using Tumblr. I think it could definitely help me keep everything I like organized and see many library aspects out there.

I love that you added the definition and meaning of the acronym RSS because I did not know. I also chose Feedly for my blog reader because it is simple to use and has a clean, nice look. I tried to click on your Tumblr, but it didn't work and sent me to my blogger instead. I also looked at and recommended BookRiot and ReadAloudLibrarian. I hadn't seen Ms.ReaderPants but that one seems amazing! Thanks for the recommendations and tips!
ReplyDeleteCourtney,
ReplyDeleteI also love Mrs. Readerpants and The Book Wrangler. They both bring a lighthearted note to their work that translates well into my elementary classroom. Hopefully our new Feedly accounts will help us stay up to date on their new postings!

I love all of your blog choices. I especially like Book Riot. It's nice to have a resource that provides assessments such as the quizzes. Some sites also provide anchor charts that go with the books and links to other helpful information. Such a great source for librarians!
