Social Media

 Social Media w/ School Librarians

Facebook

I believe Facebook is the easiest social media for me to use. I think that is because I have been using Facebook the longest out of all the different types of social media that is out there. There are many different ways that you can use Facebook in social media. I am one who likes to get ideas from different places. There are many organizations that you can follow along to see material that the post (ex. Publishing companies, Library organizations, and individual libraries. You can join different groups depending on what you would like more material on.

I am currently in the group Library Bulletin Boards and Displays. I love how you are able to see what different librarians are doing in their libraries with all different age groups.

Twitter

Twitter is something that I’m still not used to using. I don’t know if it is just me but I don’t think it is super user friendly in my opinion. I think it may get easier as long as I keep using the platform. I think I will have a better understanding of the platform by the end of this class since we are using more technology based programs than I do currently. Here is a little about what I found from different Educational Technologists on the platform.

  • Kathy Schrock (@kathyschrock) - I found her twitter very easy to browse. It felt just like looking at another teacher’s social media. She gave information about her self as well as things that are going on in the Ed tech world.

  • K.C. The School Librarian of Wakanda (@boss_librarian) - Her Twitter is all about what she is an avocation for as well as things that she is involved in. I think that is helpful because you can see that you as a person can show that there are may different ways to show you ways of understanding.

  • Shannon McClintock Miller (@shannonmmiller) - I really liked her Twitter overall. I liked how she shared a variety of different library topics. She shares things that she has posted on her on platforms as well as retweeted different things that she finds important or needed to be shared. I like how her platform is based on a middle grade to young reading levels that I feel the most interested in.

Instagram

I think that Instagram is a great way to have a social media platform. I like how they have many different ways to show and share what you are doing in the library realm. You can create pictures to share as well as videos. You can add different things to stories as well as have them added to your highlights. I think this is one social media I would like to have in my future library so that I can show students, parents, and staff what all we can do in the library. I can share new releases and well as different events that the library hosts to help advertise what is going on.

I decided to make a new Instagram to base just on library finds and book recommendations. I’m still getting used to adding more information on the platform for people to browse.

  1. Hi Courtney,
I also agree with you on how Twitter is not very appealing. But, if you have never used it, you will get used to it pretty soon. I love your Instagram name and the posts you have created. I think this a great way for librarians to promote pictures and posts for their library.

    Great Ideas,

  2. Hello Courtney, I was not familiar with Twitter until I had to create an acount for this course. I do agree that it is quite difficult to get used to its features at first. I have been looking through it and its starting to become a bit easier to use. Personally I think this is a social media app that I would like to utilize to promote our school library. Thanks for sharing!

  3. Courtney, totally agree with you on the twitter thing, though I am learning to love that one, too. Lots of people connect there and you can get responses from real authors if you tag them. Super cool! I absolutely love the way you have organized this blog! Beautifully done!

  4. Hi Courtney, I think Twitter will get more appealing as you use it, although I hear now it's going to go by a different name and there have been multiple changes in the summer so you might be okay if you stick to Facebook. I think social media is an excellent way to promote the library but I hate how distracted I get when I'm on it! I will definitely need to learn more impulse control so that I can promote my library but also get things done. Thanks for sharing!
