What is a Podcast?

A podcast is a program made available in digital format for download over the internet. Podcasts are primarily an audio medium, with some programs offering a supplemental video component.

Anchor: Part of Spotify



Anchor is a free podcast hosting site for creating, distrusting and monetizing your podcast, whose goal is to allow everyone’s stories to be heard around the world. The platform is owned by the popular streaming app, Spotify, which already puts you in great hands if your go with this particular platform. The best part of Anchor is that it empowers users to get paid to podcast, giving you the option to add a donation button so listeners can support your work. They also have a built-in uploading, recording and educational tools. They are able to be easily distributed to all major listening apps. 

Buzzsprout:

Buzzsprout’s name is usually found on top podcast hosts’ lists and is credited for its ease of use. It’s a modern service designed to keep things simple. The platform brings exactly what a podcast needs to the table. It includes all the good stuff like stats, easy migration and embedded podcast players. The program is only free for 90 days. It has a mobile friendly dashboard, which would be helpful for people who use their phone to work through a podcast. It also is able to easily migrate from other hosting platforms to this one. 

SoundCloud:


You’ve probably heard of SoundCloud before, but it wouldn’t be at all surprising if you didn’t know it’s a popular podcasting host as well. While SoundCloud primary focus is music, it has positioned itself to be a podcasting hosting company without ever really intending to be. They have different free podcast hosting plans. You are able to interact with fans of your podcast once it becomes popular. You are able to schedule when you would like to have a podcast episode release. 

My Opinion:

I really like all the different platforms that I took a look at but I definitely feel like one is in the front runner compared to the others. I really like Anchor with Spotify. First off, it has the backing of Spotify which is where I listen to all my podcasts already. I felt like when adding our podcast was easy and went seamless without any issue.

    Your information on the different platforms was helpful. I think I can echo your sentiment that Anchor and Spotify seem like the best way to go. It's very user friendly, and with the minimal to non existent price tag make it worthwhile to use. Thanks for the info!

    Laura and I also choose to work with Anchor with Spotify. The ability to record and create from this one site was comforting in a place where we probably all felt a bit uncomfortable. Your podcast about Fantasy was great; way to go!
